Between Monday January 13th and January 17th 2025, the MOTIF Public Policy Design welcomed 13 students.

The MOTIF was organised as a hackathon involving 13 students from the following Masters programmes: Development of International Artistic and Cultural Projects; Social and Solidarity Economy; Combating Inequalities and Discrimination in Work and Employment; Fundamental and Applied Musicology; Music Applied to Local and Regional Projects; Social Psychology of Work and Organisations and a PhD student working on his dissertation - Theories and History of the Economy in Society.

What is a MOTIF?

MOTIFs are multi-disciplinary training modules for Master's students, delivered by the institution's 8 speciality clusters and 2 partnership chairs.

The goal? To address the issue of ‘ Tackling food insecurity among young people’, in collaboration with the City of Lyon, the Boutique des Sciences and the European ENGAGEgreen project.
This week was organised around various activities that took place on the Berges du Rhône campus, as well as in the beautiful Salon des Anciennes Archives at Lyon Town Hall and in the offices of various Lyon associations involved in this initiative.

The programme was structured around a combination of technical seminar sessions, independent workshops to help students make progress on their projects, and workshops supervised by various teacher-researchers who are specialists in their field. Presentations of the issues by the sponsor, the City of Lyon (youth policy, student centre, municipal social action centre, food policy), provided practical guidance for the work of the students, who had to prepare a response to the issues at the end of the programme.
Jours 2-4
A team of researchers from the Université Lumière Lyon 2 and professionals specialised in the subject followed the students throughout the week. The Hackathon ended with a presentation day. On Friday 17 January 2025, the students presented the 3 innovative projects they had prepared during the intensive week: an ‘Alimentalyon’ application, a single, simplified application form for food aid accompanied by a food delivery service and, lastly, a ‘Café de l'Alimentation’ for young people.

What is a Hackathon ?

A hackathon combines the words ‘hacker’ and ‘marathon’. It is a competition in which participants come together to brainstorm ideas and create solutions in a short space of time.
Also known as an ‘Innovathon’ or ‘Ideathon’, a hackathon brings together people who use their collective creativity to imagine, develop and build new ideas. This collaborative and focused format is designed to inspire innovation and produce concrete results quickly.
