Institute of Human Science

Axe(s) of research

The Human Sciences Institute has 14 teams which are associated to the CNRS and 6 university teams (representing the 10 disciplines of the CNRS sections). In full or semi-residence, the teams have 4,400 m2 at their disposal in the old Military Medical School, made available by the Lyon council. This place is therefore the meeting point of history, geography, economy, philosophy, literature, linguistics, sociology and psychology.

The scientific objective of the ISH is to stimulate trans-disciplinary research, by providing logistic support and highly efficient services, allowing the development of new research subjects (for example, through instruments and application of new technologies, as is the case with the work on preservation of ancient scripts as part of national heritage, or on research based on animated image), as well as to re-launch the study of disciplines encompassing social sciences.

The objective of the ISH is to form and run support services destined for all units engaged in the conduct of scientific services within the institute; services such as:
  • research management
  • reception structure technique management
  • introduction of a computerised archive for both internal and external use adequate for the management and distribution of scientific and technical information
  • providing, developing and maintaining a communal computer infrastructure
  • logistic support for the inclusion of images into research
  • common scientific action and programme management
  • multi-disciplinary research simulation
  • logistic and administrative support for offer response
  • assistance in international relations in the domain of research
  • introduction of a publishing policy
  • information and communications concerning research activities and their promotion.
