Health at Lyon 2

At the University Lumière Lyon 2, any student encountering difficulties that may interfere with their personal or academic development can obtain advice and counselling from a team of professionals at the University Health Centre (fr. Service de Médecine Préventive Universitaire or MPU) (preventative medicine only), as well as from dedicated health and advice desks.


The University Health Centre aims to protect and look after students' physical and mental health. The Centre's multidisciplinary team (secretaries, general practitioners and specialists) who are all bound by confidentiality are on hand to look after students well being through a range of free services:

  • Providing information : leaflets on various matters, details of medical centres, test centres, family-planning centres etc.
  • Appointments with the nurse : consultation, advice, contacts as well as first aid.
  • Medical check-up : in order to detect potential problems which could interfere with a student's studies - this is preceded by an appointment with the nurse to check vaccination status, urine analysis and an eye test where necessary.
  • Consultation-only appointments : no prescriptions dispensed
  • Appointments for obtaining certificates : certificate of good health or sport exemption certificate, grant maintenance or priority accommodation certificate, extended examination time entitlement etc.

Students with a disability such as mobility, hearing or visual impairment or any other health problem requiring special arrangements are invited to contact the University Health Centre at the start of the academic year.

  • Specialist consultations are also available : dietician (advice on healthy eating, balanced diet, food and health issues, special diets etc), psychologist, psychiatrist (assessment, monitoring and referral where necessary)
  • Promoting good health : in accordance with students' requests and needs in respect of issues relevant to student life. In 2004-2005, in collaboration with a number of partners, the University Health Centre took part in the No-smoking University' campaign, joining in the environment' forum and World No-smoking Day on May 31 by setting up information stands and carbon monoxide poisoning testing docks around the campus

No appointment necessary !!!

For students and members of staff, providing, amongst other :

  • santé premiers soinsfirst aid treatment: administered for all minor injuries (surface cuts, headaches, stomach aches etc.) as well as care (blood-pressure, dressing for a burn, removal of stitches) required as part of prescribed treatment and where not possible off campus (lack of time, financial reasons etc.)

  • assistance, on campus, in emergency situations or situations causing psychological distress; attendance, working alongside security and safety staff, to any person suffering either physically or psychologically as a result of such an incident

  • listening : without a pre-arranged appointment, the nurse will see anyone who may need to discuss a particular matter or who may require counselling

  • referral to appropriate treatment facilities
  • preventative care and raising awareness in respect of hygiene matters, individual and collective health (flu vaccination campaign for staff) and safety.
