Social security

1. Students from a country-member of the European Union
You must have a European Health Insurance card issued by the appropriate authorities of their originating country as well as a photocopy of this document.
If you do not have this card, you must provide proof of private health insurance cover valid for the entire academic year and involving no restrictions.

2. Students from a non-EU member country
You must join the French social security scheme. No dispensation is possible, even in cases where the student is member of another foreign public scheme or has private health insurance whether with a French or foreign company.

Mutual Trusts

Joining a Mutual Trust scheme will cover you for reimbursement of the difference between the cost incurred for medical care, medicines or hospital treatment and the part reimbursed by the Social Security.

According to the level of cover taken, you can expect the typical cost of a top-up insurance policy to be between  63 Euro - 268 Euro per year.
Top-up insurance is not obligatory.

Students who wish to join a Mutual Trust Scheme should contact LMDE (La Mutuelle Des étudiants) or SMERRA (Mutuelle étudiante de la région Rhône Alpes).

Personal liability insurance

This is obligatory and is arranged at the time of enrolment at Lumière Lyon 2 should you not already be covered (through your student accommodation insurance policy or health insurance policy for example).
The minimum obligatory premium is around 15.25 Euros.
